MORNING SKIN
| a love poem chapbook |
---
Morning skin is a small collection of recent love poems that I wrote for my husband of 25+ years. The inquiry and angst of deep and long lasting love, adoration, grief, longing, and devotion weaves its way through the pages organically with little editing, as my writing of them initially did not consider the possibility of sharing with other eyes. It's my feeling that words from the heart like these are more about the vulnerability and less about the craft of literature. Private sharings if you will, little earthquakes, raw sugar.
A spill of the heart.

Half moon
In the arc of your foot
Just curved enough for mine
To fit
Cupped like a kitten’s back
In the hand’s palm
But somehow more
Storied.
Slipping in from skin to sigh
Breath to thigh
Just sleepily kissing away the delta waves
Tugging small pulses from
Inside to out
Pressing sides into sides
Fingers into fingers
Smiles into smiles
Matching the rise of the sun
Warming sweet dreams
Laying tender in a spoon
Like a ripening pear
Like a ripening pair.
