FOREST FLORA - Natural Botanical Perfume - The Winter Forest
| Winter Forest Magic |
The crisp aliveness of the pine needles and the balsam of tree resin jewels speak the poetry of the season. The grass roots and the rose hips sleep under a blanket of cold stillness, the winter forest whispers softly. To walk among the green of the conifers as the snowy leaves crunch underfoot and the red cardinals sing from the junipers is a dessert of the senses - sweetening our heart to the simplicity of the landscape and swelling our sense of gratitude for warmth and nourishment.
The contrast of a warm belly and a cold nose, the delight of foraging squirrels, and the enchantment of the fierce sunrays that illuminate the space between branches of deciduous trees now bare of leaves and naked to the northern sky.
A winter walk among the conifers is a special time in the wheel of the year. The change is internal and in our roots. Forest Flora is an honoring of this experience. It opens with a clean, deeply invigorating rosemary and fresh pine top note accord. There is both familiarity and uniqueness in the beginning, as the perfume is laced with a few very unusual forest ingredients not found in conventional fragrances.
Nuances of lichen, tiny soft mushrooms along the birch bark and forest floor, and springs of dried French lavender weave their way through the slow unfoldment of the perfume. Warm, sweet yet fresh resin tears of Pinon pine, Norway spruce, and balsam fir hold the heart and base notes with a beautiful and reverent aroma from the heart of the forest. Just the tiniest touch of jasmine, vanilla, sweet gum, and cypriol bridge the accords and enhance the mystery.
This is not a perfume for those who want to smell like Chanel. This is for the Forest Dweller, the Druid, the Woodswoman or Man, the lover of the leaves and the wood fired tub under the stars. It is for the dreamer of snowflakes on spruce tips and lingering walks to track the gait of the fox. It is for those who put their hands on the bark of the tree and close their eyes. It is for the pine needle tea time after a long forest wandering.
Personally, winter is not my season. I detest being cold, the discomfort of bundling up, and the lack of ease in my body. It is the time of finding and appreciating the little things that help me cope - I collect tree resins and needles, make nourishing brews and broths, and get lost in perfume making.
Forest Flora is one of my winter comforts. It features hand collected fragrant tree resins that I gather from various spruce, fir, and pine species.
