BASIL 

{ the wealth of a summer garden } 

Is there a bounty like the bounty of summer basil? The timeless moments of too much -- what do I do? I shall make pesto. I shall hang bundles to dry for winter sauce. I shall layer my garden tomatoes, warm from the sun, with full green leaves of basil and a pinch of salt, and eat them until I am full. I will make vinegar, soak it in olive oil, and perhaps give some away. 

The euphoria of real basil, finally captured in a perfume.

Fresh, leafy, layered. The height of the summer garden overflowing with basil and bumper crops. The lettuce tries to bolt. The tomatoes drip their semi sweet juices.

There’s no satisfaction like our hands in the dirt, growing. Sticky from picking, savoring the riches of the earth. Creativity is challenged by too many vegetables and the fleeting
season of overflow.
