She Dyed Her Lace in Coffee

in the bathtub. She was a tiny woman, with opulent eyes and hair flowing near down to her knees. She lived in a tiny cottage home with her son and daughter, who was one of my closest childhood friends. She worked for the local lingerie company, and her job was to dye the silk and lace fabrics. Walking into her home you would know she was dyeing cloth, as the intoxicating aroma of double strength coffee gurgled from the coffeemaker, pot after pot after pot in her tiny kitchen, until the clawfoot bathtub was full and the silks and lace could be submerged. Her name was Leonetta. A lacy name, no? Once to her color saturation satisfaction, the various toffee, latte, espresso shades of dripping, scented fabrics would be hung across the bathroom space; a wonderland of color, texture, smell. Somewhere faintly in the background was an old fashioned natural lavender bar of soap.
